A friend is doing a project with her students. They’re making a bulletin board of Fabulous Female New Yorkers asking them: “What advice would you give to your 14-year-old self?” I’m tickled, honored, and surprisingly conflicted.
There’s the advice I *should* (and did) give:
1. There’s more to life than work.
2. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
3. It's not easy being different but it's even harder to be someone you're not.
And then there’s the advice I wanted to give.
1. Go to more parties.
2. Sleep with more people.
3. Marry for money.
Maybe the latter I’ll save for my 20-year-old self should I get the opportunity to pop in the time machine and pay her a visit.
