A few days after My Dad’s Memorial, My beautiful, brilliant, British cousin, Janelle asked me a simple question: “What do you have to look forward to?” I blathered on for about 10 minutes: excuses, reasons, rationales… until I finally admitted: nothing.
In that moment I realized that for quite some time now all I’ve been doing is maintaining.
This is no small feat. It’s actually quite an accomplishment. But surviving is not thriving. And it certainly doesn’t give you “something to look forward to.”
Earlier this summer, I said to myself that I actually wanted to have a real summer. To that end, I had an open browser window on my laptop that was dedicated to fun stuff to do. And then, somehow I went back to maintaining.
My Cousin’s question prompted me to go back to those tabs and do something. Today, I went hot air ballooning. It was peaceful and beautiful and awesome. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year. Thanks, Janelle!
