In honor of Sexual Harassment Victims Vindication Day (or Bill O’Reilly Gets Dumped Day) here’s an excerpt from a story (“That Guy”) in my book, Real Women Do It Standing Up.
"So I shouldn’t have been the least bit surprised when That Guy — the emcee that night — went on-stage and said, “Let’s have another round of applause for Leighann Lord. You can find her on Playboy.com where you can see pictures of her ass.”
Did That Guy think he was being funny? Sadly, yes, but as a rule: if no one else is laughing, then it’s not funny. It didn’t help that he continued to make comments off-stage about how it was difficult for him to concentrate on the show because he was looking at my ass. Wow, how smooth was that?
I wish I could say that I confronted That Guy, he saw the error of his ways, and he apologized. I did confront him and my reward was having my future dates at the club cancelled. A small price to pay for my dignity, I suppose. But in the end, pun intended, I’d rather have a nice ass than be one."
