I performed at a small college last night. Before the show started a few Sisters came in and while there were open seats in the front, they opted to sit in the very last row. I went over and said, "Hey, Ladies. Are y'all sitting in the back so you can leave in case you don't like the show?" They looked at each other, smiled and said, "Yes." I smiled and said, "I get that. By all means, leave your options open. But I'm glad you're here now. Thanks for coming."
The show was delightful. At times My Ladies were an integral part of it (co-signing our shared cultural experiences), and they ended up stayed for all of it. I hope next time they'll sit in the front row.
