Tonight I had the pleasure of running into another female comic who was ahead of me on the path when I was doing open mics. OPEN! MICS! Although she's left long left stand-up (and I get it) I got the chance to tell her how much she meant to me as a young comic, and how much I absolutely adored her.
You never forget your accidental mentors. Those people who make an impression on you. On stage she had a nonchalant, I don't give a shit attitude, unfailingly feminist, and relentlessly funny. Her leaving the business was comedy's loss -- in my humble opinion.
She was always gracious and kind to me when she didn't have to be and I am grateful that tonight, I got the gift of saying thank you to her.
