I’m one of those people who’s so busy working and grinding and reaching for the next thing that I don’t take the time to appreciate what I’ve accomplished. I’m always in “what’s next” mode. But as I was putting the finishing touches on my People with Parents Podcast Patreon page I realized that I’ve created a fuckton of really good content. I’ve processed the arduous journey of role reversal, elder care, and life transition in the only way I know how: through my art; through comedy and writing and talking. I’ve shared this experience on the standup comedy stage. Behind a lectern, I’ve given talks about caregiving to help people prepare for what may come and to find the humor in what currently is. (Future Ted Talk? Definitely.) The People with Parents Podcast is something a little more intimate. The stories I share are funny and poignant. They are personal and yet universal. I’ve finally decided to monetize the podcast on the Patreon platform because staying closer to home to care for My Parents (now Parent) means that I’m not on the road as much as I used to be. My fellow comics know: The road is where the money is. I am hopeful that thegenerosity and support of my podcast listeners and career supporters will make being closer to home more financially feasible.
If you find value in the stories I share and in the way that I share them, please become a Friend of the Show. You will get early access to new episodes of People with Parents, a transcript of the show, and a listing on the People with Parents website as a Friend of the Show. There’s no other show that talks about this stage of life in the way that I talk about it: with compassion, honesty, and humor. Help me reach other caregivers who are caring for aging parents; letting them know that they are not alone. This is what my community of listeners have said about People with Parents: "This podcast is a necessity for me. It enters spaces and places in aging not discussed openly with an excellent blend of hilarity and sobering poignant thoughts. Its transparency and resonance are refreshing. Thank you for sharing these elements of yourself and your experiences." “I first discovered Leighann Lord on social media and have always enjoyed her intelligent, thought-provoking and funny podcasts/comedy shows. Delivering a show that has all three of these characteristics takes special talent and Leighann has it! This particular podcast allows us all to experience and appreciate Leighann’s life journey with aging parents with a mix of seriousness and humor." "I just finished listening to “That Middle of the Night Phone Call.’” First of all, what a fantastic voice and delivery Leighann has! I think I could listen to her all night. Second, this podcast had me smiling throughout while tearing up most of the time. I am definitely hooked. Third, I am probably fast becoming one of those ‘parents’ with my son being one of those ‘people.’ I think we all can enjoy and benefit from this wonderful podcast… What a fantastic idea!” I am so grateful for these very kind words. I wish "People with Parents" was a sexy podcast. I wish it was about news, politics, dating, drinking, drugging, hookups — you know, all the popular stuff that people can’t get enough of. But PwP is about family, love, change, loss, and more love. Thank you for taking the plunge with me. Thank you for your support, which you can give by going to www.Patreon.com/PeoplewithParents.
