[PODCAST] People with Parents Returns! What Had Happened Was...

It's been interesting times here in my urban corner of Shady Pines. Being a daughter with a capital "D" is no joke when you've got old, ailing parents who need increasing amounts of care and time. It's taken me a minute to figure out how to balance it all. (I'll let you know when I do.) But in the meantime, please listen and share the reboot of my People with Parents podcast, where we can talk about, laugh about and figure out the role reversal that happens between adult children and their parents.

You are so strong. I took care of my brother and I know the feelings . Do note that you are never given more than you can bear and you are not alone. You are a voice for all of us who can't deal with what lies ahead. Peace to you.

Leighann, I found your podcast through a friend and it's so timely as I'm juggling the role reversal (with an ailing mother). We as the adult children have to be strong and take care of ourselves as well. This is some journey....

Hello. My older sister is the one who took on the responsibility of caring for our elderly father. She moved him from Queens to Pasadena, CA this year. I will point her to your podcast. The stories she tells me sound so much like yours. I'm ashamed to say that I would never have had the strength to do what she's doing. I spent just 10 days with him this summer while she took a MUCH NEEDED vacation. My brother and his wife took the next 10 days. We were all spent! He made my brother's wife cry the first few days they were there. But he's our dad. It's our duty to be there for him, even if he wasn't...isn't... the best. We all love him deep down. But it's rough. God bless you.

Amechi, Thanks for listening and for pointing your sister to the podcast. May she find some help, hope and humor in it. It was probably tough for you and your brother's family because this is not your everyday experience and there's a lot to be said for having a routine in place. It helps minimize the stress. (Sometimes.) That said, I tell my old folks all the time: "You can't be old, crazy AND cranky." Something's got to give. I'm only human. :-) But it can be tough all around for everybody. Now that you see how tough it can be, I hope you can find ways to help your sister, even at a distance. Thanks again!
