My stand-up comedy colleagues are creative and crazy; silly and sick. Our real-life problems are not necessarily unique but are surely emblematic of a larger national issue around mental health and lack of good medical care. Perhaps we are the canaries in the coal mine.
It is our vulnerability that helps us soar on stage but it has serious life-altering consequences. Note: The author could not possibly have interviewed everyone who had a relevant story to share or mentioned everyone who met a tragic end; but it was nice to see Jim Mendrinos and Jenny L. Saldaña. It would've also been nice if Richard Jeni (who committed suicide in 2007) had been mentioned. He was funny AF and I still miss him. READ THE ARTICLE. Comments are closed.
