I’ve had people say or insinuate to me my entire life what kind of Black Person they think I am or should be. And now here comes Joe Biden.
He said, "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black."
Shut up, Joe! Just STFU!
Yes. I know he apologized.
Yes, I know folk were quick to explain and spin that we have to put what Joe said in an interview with Charlamagne tha God on "The Breakfast Club" into context. In other words, “Come on, y’all! You know what he meant.”
No. Just no.
I don't need the presumptive nominee to be hip, cool, down for whatever, or to mimic what he thinks passes for urban vernacular. This ain’t that kinda party.
I need Joe to come correct and use his grown up words when speaking to us. If he can’t speak with us, how can he possibly speak for us?
‘I’m not Trump.’
Brilliant! Go on…
I’m the kind of Black Person who expects the presumptive nominee to be a bit more prepared and polished; To show up and talk about substantive policies that will address and remedy long-standing core legal, social, educational, economic, and political issues. Dare to do more than just restore the status quo.
Don’t do the verbal equivalent of showing up in sneakers and a backwards baseball cap. It’s insulting.
I know the bar is low, but the stakes are high; and we deserve better than stumbling, bumbling, and colloquial pandering.
That’s what’s up.
