10 Podcasts for Older Adults That Promise to Entertain—and Enlighten!
This Episode of People with Parents…
was originally done as a YouTube video. Watch it here. I've started the physically and emotionally arduous task of cleaning out My Parents things. It's not just clutter. It’s making decisions about things that they thought were important. Or things they never got around to throwing away and now it's my job. But I’m also managing to find the funny: old tech, books, buttons, and oh yeah: a cassingle! A what? You heard me! A cassingle! So, if you enjoy the audio in this episode, please be sure to check out the video. The link is in the comments. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/4RGfuDAugSI

In This Episode of People with Parents…
A recent New York Times article about patients being thrown out of nursing homes got me thinking about how hard it is to get into one.
In This Episode of People with Parents…
I talk about how my family observed our special days, our birthdays. And with my birthday on the horizon, what does that mean for me now.
In This Episode of People with Parents…
I chat with comedian and actor Bill McCarty, an only child, caring for his 92 year old mother in a nursing home in the time of COVID.

I run down the (short) list of the things My Father never taught me: Bid Whist Chess, Pool… tying up papers and Amazon boxes. I kid you not. How in the world am I surviving?
An Interview with Comedian Carole Montgomery
In This Episode of People with Parents… We have an interview! I’ve wanted to do more interviews for the podcast for some time now, and at last I get to have a conversation with Carole Montgomery. She is one of my long-time, good friends in standup comedy; and even before I started this podcast, I cried many times on her shoulder about My Parents because she has already been there, done that. We talk about what it’s like to “lose them” before we lose them. The little things that tell us, “Something’s up with Dad.” Seeing and admitting the signs of dementia, dealing with hospital delirium, and the UTI bonus round; the reality of nursing homes in the age of COVID, the national conversations we’re not having but need to and why elders need advocates. And how all of this puts aging in perspective.
Thoughts & fears from the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic and encouragement from where I least expected it.
In This Episode of People with Parents… It’s been difficult to pull my thoughts together and away from the daily news briefings to do this episode; but it needed doing and sharing. Taking care of the last half of my Dynamic Duo, while mourning the lost half was already challenging. And then… Corona.

In This Episode of People with Parents…
In the wake of the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, there's a lot of talk about him being a #GirlDad. It reminded me of a piece I wrote back in 2008 called Lucky to be Daddy’s Girl: (The Flavor of Fatherhood.) I thought it would make a good episode as of the podcast. Enjoy.
