I remember the first time (and last time) I saw The Flavor of Love and thinking: Maybe if we had more daddies who paid attention instead of fathers who just paid support, this kind of thing wouldn’t happen. Well, she wasn’t so much blading as she was stomping around like Frankenstein and trying not to fall down. It was pitiful. Parents buy their kids bicycles knowing they'll have to teach them how to ride but this doesn't happen with roller skates or blades, probably because parents themselves don't know how to skate. READ MORE Due to technical difficulties, this week's Urban Erma Blogcast is not yet available on iTunes, but you can enjoy it on YouTube. And you can still enjoy it the old fashion way at TheUrbanErma.com My long time, stand-up friend Dean Obeidallah is co-directing a wonderful documentary, The Muslims are coming. Please check out this hella-funny trailer and spread the word. The Muslims ARE coming. And if you are so inclined please make a donation to help them finish this great project. I didn't plan it, but I certainly seem to be on a jag of reading books that were made into movies. I saw "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" too long ago for it to shape or color my view and enjoyment of the book. I remind myself not to judge it out of it's time. But that said, I'm really enjoying the unabridged audio version. The reader is wonderful. Well, back to the combine. :-) If you're a fan on FaceBook or if you follow me on Twitter then you know I do a daily post called "The Word of the Day" WOTD. I give you a word, it's dictionary definition, and then the "Leighann" definition: an alternate. That's AltDef. It's the perfect blend of my skills as a stand-up comedian, writer, word lover, and former English major. It started back in 2011 as an outlet for my geekiness and as a way to celebrate the English language. Pulling from a variety of sources including Dictionary.com it's a fun way of expanding people's vocabulary and reminding them that language can be fun and fungible. So what's an actual AltDef? WOTD: maladroit\mal-uh-DROYT\ adj. lacking skill, cleverness, or resourcefulness in handling situations || An android with a bad attitude. WOTD: validate\VAL-uh-dayt\ verb: to make legally valid : ratify || Going on a date with a valley girl. WOTD: assay \a-SEY\ verb: To examine or analyze. || How Foghorn Leghorn starts every sentence. Check out my AltDefs every day on FaceBook, Twitter, and all fine social media outlets where cool concepts are enjoyed. |
